My French Pen pal S. sent me a photo today of one of the main rail way stations in Paris, RER. S’s point was there were very few people wearing masks in an even more crowded and confined space that this view of the tracks by a train. I replied that if this is how the French were going to take their new liberties to roam about they could soon expect a new surge of corona cases. Good luck France. It took me ages to figure out how to transfer this to my blog but when I did a much larger image showed lots of strings around people’s ears as they faced away from the camera. I no longer think this is quite so terrible a picture but I sure wouldn’t want to be in that crowd masked or otherwise.
S. also sent me a cartoon of a masked Macron being dragged to school by his wife Brigitte. I can’t copy that one either but S. comes from a family that has fans of our President Trump. S. reads a lot of my posts and knows I am not a fan. The irony is this. S. and I are almost exactly the same age. Donald Trump won election because he got the lion’s share of votes in 2016 from people our age and older. Who is most frightened of the prospect of an early grave? voters my age and older. S. may enjoy twitting Franc’s un Trump Macron but S. was a teacher with grandchildren. S. is not happy to have them going to school soon.
Ditto S’s age cohort in the US. Dying because Donald Trump wants to up his chances of reelection by reviving the Corona starved economy is not in their best interests. Trump is now threatening a significant part of his political base. If his assurances of a vaccine are as empty has his recommendations to use bleach to kill the virus even his science skeptics are likely to have a hard time swallowing is remedies. Good luck Trump……No, I don’t really mean that. Good luck America.
