High School Newspaper

Years ago I recall Duluth News Tribune policies designed to put candidates for public office on a level playing field. One of them, and I don’t recall exactly how it was drawn up, prevented the paper from publishing self serving campaign fluff immediately before an election. Like a high school annual that puts copious pictures of the popular kids in its pages the Trib no longer pays much heed to the level playing field. Today’s column by Ann Wasson is further proof of this. There is a primary election four days from now.

Last year they put a glowing piece about Roger Reinert in the paper a day or two before a primary and of course their sister publication has Ralph Doty who throws knives at candidates he disapproves of on the Saturday before elections.

Charming.
