So the Trib did cover the biggest news related to the School District. Our Board faces a $4 million dollar deficit. I’m the one who should be doing cartwheels since I didn’t get reelected to face them. (that’s a reference to the previous post)
I do have some related news/thoughts on this subject prompted by text messages and email sent me by others but, tempting as it is to tell you about them, I won’t. I’ve got a book to write. I’ll just follow this up with my column in today’s Duluth Reader then its back to the past.
OH YEAH. I ALMOST FORGOT. YESTERDAY I MET WITH THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE’S “LEADERSHIP DULUTH” COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION. THEY HAD ASKED IF I WOULD OFFER THEM SOME INSIGHTS ON THE BIG EDUCATIONAL ISSUES FACING DULUTH AND I WAS HAPPY TO OBLIGE. I DESCRIBED THE DISTRICT’S FINANCIAL HURDLES AND THE ISSUE OF EQUITY AMONG OTHER THINGS. WHEN THEY ASKED WHO I THOUGHT MIGHT BE GOOD SPEAKERS TO TALK TO FUTURE LEADERS ABOUT THE SUBJECT I SUGGESTED FORMER SUPT. MARK MYLES AND FORMER DFT UNION PRESIDENT FRANK WANNER. I ALSO SUGGESTED THAT IT MIGHT BE DANGEROUS TO PUT BOTH MEN IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER.
