From JCI’s “poor me” schtick in today’s “Overheard” column.
On Central High School, scheduled to be closed under the red plan:
“It’s being touted as an ideal site. It’s less than ideal.” – David
“That site has a lot more drawbacks than most people realize. It’s
77 acres, but a lot of it is unbuildable because of the grade.” – David
“It would have worked as the single high school for the city, but there’s misunderstanding about the amount of developable land or buildable land there for a school.” – David
“We would have needed a parking ramp.” – Schiltz
But there will be no need for a parking ramp on the tiny Ordean site once we get the Duluth Planning Commission’s OK to build too little parking now. That’s because a new school board can break this Board’s promise not to use eminent domain. Paving over Ordean is a small price to pay for all the multiplier effect money the construction industry is going to enjoy.
