Duluth’s lucky sixth graders will get their own school. Gosh, that sure sounds swell. That’s the implication of another cheerful headline in today’s Trib on the School Board’s increasingly incoherent plans to hustle students all over Duluth in order to beat the voters to the next election. They’ll just tear down and gut the the Red Plan’s targeted schools a year or two early to make sure there’s no going back.
I’ve been cheered by the imminent departure of the Trib’s publisher, Steve McLister, but his name is still on the Trib’s staff list. This fiasco has been cheered on by the CEO of the Duluth Chamber of Commerce David Ross and guess who serves on the Chamber Board of Directors?
David loves to call Duluth the “Emerald City on the Hill”. Dave and his cronies however don’t want any lousy school up on the Emerald City’s magnificent promontory if there’s a little money to be made by demolishing it and parking a bunch of condos on it. What was that line from the Wizard of Oz? Oh yeah! “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”
