Canaries in the mine shaft

In the old days miners kept canaries in the mine shaft because they would die very quickly after becoming exposed to dangerous levels of underground gasses. When the birds keeled over it was time for the miners to get the hell out. Duluth may be serving that purpose for the whole state.

Carinda Horton told me that Dr. Dixon told her that the state legislature is considering giving school boards across the state the same right to build without voter approved referendums that the Duluth School Board is excercising. If the people of Duluth don’t squawk what’s to stop the legislatuare? After all, the Federal stimulus package has money for school buildings. What legislator in their right mind would want to let local voters get in the way of all that wonderful stimulus?

At the time I told Carinda that I didn’t believe much of anything the Superintendent said. Upon reflection I think he may actually, inadvertently have blurted out the truth.
