I’ll be spending a lot of time writing at my computer today but not all that much for the blog. That is not because I have little to report. It is because I still find myself in a strange Twilight Zone poised between my campaign promise of Honesty and the practical world of diplomacy that might make it possible to fix some wounding problems in ISD 709.
But that’s a subject for a later hour or day.
NOTE: this is where I ended my posting yesterday. I did do some writing. I’ve got a lot more to do but it will mostly be directed to fellow and sister School Board members and ISD 709 insiders although I’m also penning some remarks related to the soon to be announced tentative settlement that I plan to deliver when we vote on the contract. At the moment I’m ignorant of the particulars so I think its safe for me to mention that, yes, we have been negotiating a contract although one board member recently looked over his/her glasses and gave me a severe look when my blog was mentioned. In my opinion we can’t afford it in any event and that’s part of the message in most of the emails I’m penning.
Back to Misc.
Yesterday afternoon and evening I finished reading a wonderful book by Sherman Alexie to Claudia. Its a young adult novel called The “Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.” It won a National Book Award and I’d love to have the kids I’m meeting at Lifehouse get a chance to read it. I have been hanging around there like a fifth wheel for a month now one night a week. I’m too busy to go there much more often but these are the kids our School District is shortchanging. I’ve played scrabble and table tennis with them and brought in my sketch pad to do some pretty useless sketching and a book of song lyrics a few of which I sang with one of the employees. My goal was to help tutor kids who needed help with GED’s and other classwork. I’ll probably have to pick another time and day before they will find me of any use.
I bought Alexie’s book on a whim when I went into Barnes and Nobel looking for some books that would apply some of the purchase price to my grandson’s school. I also got a book I’ve been eyeing there for a year ad more American Lion a Pulitzer winner about the Indian’s best friend Andrew Jackson. I also got the Book Lincoln’s Boys about his principal biographers and their mission to place him firmly in the American historical firmament.
I’ve been busy so I these will all wait until I get Bully Pulpit out of the way. Its another great read and on the occasions I dig into it it gives me strength and courage.
I’ve got another check up on my heart coming up and just knowing I’m paying attention to it hs calmed me down a bit. Although not getting that apology has caused me a little heartburn. I know that yesterday I had more to say but this will have to do for misc.
