Putting the Chainsaw Genies back in the bottle

I’m glad I wrote them. I just wiped them clean leaving only the titles and empty posts. This is a first. I have only once or twice erased or removed a full post over six years. I’ve never before trashed most of a day’s output in this case over 5,000 words. I know they’ve been read. I know they will cause ripples. Their sudden absence may enlarge their significance beyond all rational measure.

They were five things that trouble me and kept me awake last night in a kind of despair. I have gotten them off my chest. Some will hear from others what I wrote and be unhappy with me. Upon this day’s reflection I decided that for the time being they are best left erased if not unposted. I have a job to do. Fix our schools if that is possible. The posts continued presence would/will make that harder. Their fleeting existence may well make me less effective. The problems they laid out are not by any means solved. They will continue to keep me awake at night.

In the meantime I’ll enjoy the stir they made and I will make no apologies except to those who feel I’m backing off on my pledge of candor. In this case I’m, for the moment, deferring to can do.
