Let Duluth Vote petition has 1750 signatures
Brenda Anderson, volunteer coordinator for Let Duluth Vote, announced at last night’s meeting in the Duluth Height’s Community Club, that the group has 1,750 signatures on its petition requesting that the School Board puts its $293 million Red plan up for a referendum.
One active senior lady in Morgan Park, who at first only wished to sign the petition, has had the most spectacular record to date. While typical petitioners find that 80 to 90 percent of the people they approach sign their petitions this lady has gotten 120 signatures with only 4 turn downs for a 97 percent signature rate.
“The School Board’s claim that 71 percent of the voters don’t want a referendum is just bogus,” said Gary Glass, a school board candidate and leader of the petition drive.
Counting all the signatures has been a challenge because several dozen petitioners are still out and unheard from. Let Duluth Vote will present its initial petitions to the School Board at its next meeting, Tuesday, September 18th. The group is encouraging voters to attend the meeting to demonstrate their demand to vote. After the School Board meeting members of the organization will travel to St. Paul to present the petitions to Governor Pawlenty.
The group also announced its new website: www.letduluthvote.com where voters can read about the problems with the School District’s massive, no vote, building plan.
