Abrupt end to a day’s campaigning

I was back at it working my way east from far west Duluth when I discovered my family had been trying to reach me. My littlest grandson had had a seizure after a modest temperature spiked to at least 103 degrees. I raced to my daughter’s home to see how he was doing after his ambulance ride to St. Lukes. He was one tired little boy when I saw him. “Papa will you stay awhile?” he asked as he laid his head on my shoulder. Makes campaigning seem pretty hollow.

Except that all the families I’ve met who are unhappy about the Duluth Schools and are sending their children elsewhere have the same priority I do. Its a damned shame and disgrace that our schools no longer beckon to them. I’ve always said that if you can’t feel passionate about your children what can you feel passionate about? Perhaps the answer for some was new school buildings, the bigger the better.

Obviously many Duluth families just don’t know what’s good for them.
