Putting up lawnsigns in Piedmont

I put up ten lawnsigns in Piedmont in about as many minutes. It was easy as Pie however I also spent a couple hours giving Liam a history of Piedmont, Loren Martel and the Red Plan.

I mentioned someone’s fear that I might face some tough campaign tactics. I’m not all that worried about it but I was given a sample of a flyer Nancy Nilsen distributed all over Piedmont when she lost the election four years ago. Its a fuzzy copy and this is hard to read but this is it:

This flyer was not effective and Nancy lost the election. It charged that, “Tom Kasper wants to continue bussing your children to Morgan Park…” It also says, “Tom Kasper is from the East End of town. He suports Art Johnston who wants Denfeld changed to a 7th-12th and to change the name to “Duluth West.” Tom Kasper will build new schools out EAst and band-aid schools out West. That’s what will happen if he stops the Red Plan.”

Even at the time it was full of misinformation. Tom took very few of the positions that Nilsen accused him of either during the campaign or in the four years he served on the School Board. Nancy tried to tar Kasper with western Duluth distrust of elitist East Duluthians. I don’t find it particularly terrible or mean just stupid and inaccurate. God knows if Nancy has been reading my blog. If she has she could find much more scandalous things that I’ve said about my past. We’ll see if she can trump my scandals with her support for the Red Plan. People in Piedmont all feel that they lost their elementary school. Others think it ruined the Duluth Schools. Its a pretty precarious pedestal to stand on. That’s why it was so easy for me to put up lawnsigns there.
