I met with Robin Washington and Marti Buscaglia respectively the editor and publisher of the Duluth News Tribune late this afternoon. They were both cordial despite all the emails my friends and supporters innundated them with.
We talked for about 45 minutes. It was long enough for them to size me up and ask a few questions. Robin told me that he still had candidates begging him for a chance to talk to him but that time had run out. I, of course, was added to the list of interviewees late in the cycle after my email campaign.
Marti asked if I thought I would hurt Rod Grams more by pulling away moderate Republican votes. I suggested that some Democrats were more worried that I’d do that to Jim Oberstar since I’m the only social moderate in the race.
I asked Robin if he was going to raise the subject of the Aquarium again when he told me he would ask some of the same questions he’d asked at the official public television debate. So he started with that – what federal partnerships or help or grants might benefit our Aquarium.
I told him that for the past couple years I’ve been surprised that no one had tried to make a connection beteeen the Aquarium and our premier EPA fresh water lab.
