A long way from home

Its been strange to read so much about Jim Oberstar in the local papers lately. He’s been tromping around the district a lot in recent days. I guess having a former US Senator running against him has made it necessary for Jim Oberstar to remind voters that he’s from the state.

This point was noted by Russ Young in the Duluth Budgeteer who got his info from Rod Grams who, like me, has good reason to harp on Oberstar’s absence.

Grams has been able to use his easy access to the Republican dirt digging apparatus in Washington DC examined Oberstar’s travel records and has deduced that from December 2004 until February 2006 Oberstar spent only nine days in Minnesota.

Oberstar has lived out east for 44 years. His children are east coasters. His home is in the beltway. He’s 72 years old and probably doesn’t want to travel if he doesn’t have to. Minnesota is a long way from home.
