Is it time for Minnesota to audit the Duluth Schools?

I’ve posted my opinion on this a number of times. (I can’t be sure if all the posts in the preceding link actually talk about a state audit. Some surely do)

Now Loren Martell who was defeated by Judy Seliga-Punyko is beginning to circulate a petition which he informs me would require Minnesota’s State Auditor to perform an audit of the Duluth Schools. Rather than let a private contractor do a greatly circumscribed audit to the School Board’s liking Martell says the petitioners could direct an audit to areas of specific concern. Loren is being helped by a retired banker and former Duluth School Board member.

Loren has gotten about 15% of the necessary signatures over the past two weeks by going door to door after work (a godawful slow process) all by his lonesome. He could use some help. When I heard about this I thought it was a terrible shame the petition hadn’t been brought to the DFL and GOP precinct caucuses last week. Four years ago a call for a vote on the Red Plan passed almost unanimously at the DFL convention. If anything most Republicans would be even more passionate about having their referendum vote stolen from them.

Loren says nearly everyone signs the petition. He even got a JCI worker to grab the clipboard from his hands to sign it. Its proof that you can’t blame JCI’s line workers for the duplicity of their superiors.

There is a Duluth School District policy that requires a Minnesota State audit every five years. Guess when the last one took place? 1996. I was there for that one. It took a lot of work to prepare for it. Since then Dr. Dixon eviscerated the portion of District’s administration that would help the state do the audit. You can be sure the dregs of the Administration will yell bloody murder if they are forced to hand over finance info to the State. Heck, they can’t even prepare the necessary documentation to get the State’s OK on the only thing our school board cares about – more additions to the Red Plan.

I’m busy writing a book but I told Loren that I would pass his number on to people interested in ferreting out the truth from the Duluth Schools. You can give him a call at: 722-5052 or send him an email at: lmartell343@gmail.com.

You will probably have to simply put Loren’s email address [ lmartell343@gmail.com ] in your email because I’ve forgotten how to format the address to facilitate immediate delivery.
