Armistice Day

I’ve been in KCMO for the past couple days. Here’s the scoop in brief.

My Grandfather George Robb was honored on November 10th at his old alma mater Park College, now University.

Grandfather won the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in World War 1. (Google George Robb and Harry Welty if you’re curious) The University, just outside Kansas City MO, invited his descendants to a ceremony on Thursday, (The school was closed today on the actual holiday) to inaugurate a memorial honoring his military service. Five of us showed up. The ceremony was very nice, Claudia found them moving. Taps always does that.

Those of us who stayed last night visited our nation’s only official World War I museum this afternoon. Its next to Union Station and Hallmarks Crowne Center.

The past couple days I’ve been pouring through lots of memorabilia and memoirs about my Grandfather’s family and service during the war. It’s been a very nice week and tonight we will go see an opera in the new Kauffman Performance Center.

If the damned Duluth School Board just minds its P’s and Q’s I’ll shut up about them. Somehow I’m not very confident that this will happen.
