With friends like this who needs enemies?
The “this” is quoted extensively in my Buddy’s favorite blog – Powerline. Perhaps my buddy got a little too excited over my putting two of his recent links to me on Lincolndemocrat. I view the Powerline post as a little bit of dancing on the grave of the Prez which could be a bit parlous as in: “Reports of my death are premature.”
Obama is making elements of his party apocoleptic for abanding the faith. Good for him! The best recent example is his shucking of lots of Environmental regulation that many liberals have been panting for. A little before that and before the Gulf Oil Spill his Administration was busy OKaying hundreds of deep sea drilling rigs in the gulf. Who was it who said, “Drill baby Drill?”
Powerline might note that Obama has consistently operated to keep the economy humming and thus making his ultra-liberal, capitalist-hating base mad at him. That would, however, be a rightward compliment and would interfere with the Rush Limbaugh trope, all tripe by the way, that Obama is the most lefty President of all time. I wish the Conservatives would all get on the same page. Is Obama a lefty or a compromiser?
Its silliness like this that keeps Obama’s unfavorables of 62% light years below the unfavorables of the Republicans in Congress, 72%. Having said that he may very well lose the election even as most voters recognized that 1. A quick fix (in four years) is damn nigh impossible and 2. That the GOP would rather beat him in 2112 even if it means postponing an economic recovery till after some Republican can take his place. The American electorate will have to ask itself if getting rid of Obama, who still mostly only speaks out of one side of his mouth, should be replaced by a Republican President who might very well end up with a Democratic Congress intent on Obamanizing him and keeping the nation in the same continuing Depression.
I’m with Obama. Stimulus spending is going to help kick our economy into gear far faster than deregulation of business. (That’s just what all the military spending in WW II did!) Furthermore, Obama is offering to do his own deregulation, thus the liberal discontent, which would get government off the backs of business as the GOP wants. Together, Obama and a cooperative Congress we might also get some prudent trimming of Social Security and Medicare. He just offered the GOP ten dollars of cuts to every one dollar of tax increase. The GOP’s inability to take him up on the offer is just one more reason I trust Obama and not the Tea Party.
Its the GOP that has touted reforming Social Security by forcing people to invest their savings in the Stock Market which, come to think of it, is rather like forcing them to pay for Government mandated Medical Insurance premiums. I love the little hobgoblin to be found in GOP consistency. (That’s an inside joke for my buddy)
If the left wants Obama to channel Rush Limbaugh to hell with them. If the right wants to keep dittoheading Limbaugh to hell with them too including Powerline.
