Trading in my snark for candor

All I know about today’s first day of school board filings is that Judy Seliga-Punyko has filed for reelection. Judy, some of you may recall, defeated me four years ago when I ran for the School Board. Apparently Denfeld’s former Principal Bill Westholm is poised to file for Tim Grover’s Third District seat. I have presumed that he is a supporter of the Red Plan. Should he file I will offer some observations. Gary Glass is bowing out at-large.

I’ll have an announcement on that score (haven’t I been hinting as much) tomorrow. You’ll never guess…

What I’m about to write isn’t intended as an announcement but it is far more important. With the departure of Dr. Dixon I am no more inclined to harp on the deficiencies of his school board loyalists at least not in the snarky way that has become something of a habit. Scolding and taunting were once foreign to me. I used to hate sitcoms because the put down was king. Its ironic that I’ve become so proficient myself.

I don’t see so much need for it anymore. It has been a pleasure to aim it at both the arrogance and ignorance behind the rush to the Red Plan but now the Red Plan is too far along. Its time to come together and pick up the pieces of the wreckage its left behind.

We need a change in school board members. For voters who have felt scorned and ignored it will be cathartic. Even the School District can no longer deny their majority status. Its own recent poll of residents showed that a paltry 17% approved of the Red Plan while 45% went on record as disapproving. I suspect that if they were honest the remaining 38% who expressed no opinion would have broken along similar lines.

Starting tomorrow Readers who have enjoyed, or been irritated by, my irreverence will see a much more reflective side of me on the local educational issues. As for national politics. Not so much. There are still a lot of inflated egotists to puncture.
