Re: the Post “No Joke 2” a friend emails:
Oh, Harry. Keep your diapers on. The people will decide whether what their politicians are doing, should have been done.
Its fair to say that this friend expresses no opinion on whether Bush’s and Obama’s vast spending programs prevented a mega depression from descending upon the world. Its also probably fair to say that this friend would regard such an event as a corrective that we would ultimately be grateful for.
I, on the other hand, incline to the belief that panic rarely leads to anything very positive.
Furthermore, I take the suggestion that if a panic and depression ensues it will be OK because the voters will be able to punish the cretins who brought it about.
I might even excuse the Republicans myself if I thought their leaders truly felt the debt ceiling and the world’s confidence in our honoring our debts wasn’t all that important in the economic scheme of things. I don’t, however, believe that anyone other than a crackpot who makes money curing homosexuality, like Michelle Bachman, really believes such nonsense. I simply see party soldiers lining up to say “me to” for fear of being called names by the likes of Grover Norquist, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.
Has anyone written a Profiles in Cravenness?
