When Republicans oppose “local control”

Republicans make a big fuss over the virtue of “local control.” They extol its virtues especially in the field of Education where they do their darnedest to make sure big state bureaucracies don’t push around the locals who know best. Timmy Pawlenty did it in his defense of the Red Plan although in his case he was sticking up for the Duluth School Board more than the people who elected them.

The folks up in northern St. Louis County have eyeballed another Republican abandonment of the idea of local control in a bill that would give local units of government the ability to protect themselves from rapacious and sometimes sneaky developers.

They have noticed it because JCI has done its best with the St. Louis County school board to build an unwanted JCI built School building in Field Township whose Town Board has attempted to stop it.
