Except that ten years ago ISD 709 educated 80% of all of Duluth’s students and today its down to 73% of a smaller population.
Greetings, members of the School Board~
Both school board members and the Duluth News Tribune have requested information regarding the enrollment changes from last year to this year in the Duluth Public Schools, as well as Central/Denfeld High School. Here are the key points, with corresponding graphs attached. To view the various tables and graphs, use the tabs at the bottom of the page.
Key points:
There are fewer students leaving the district this year during September-December, compared to last year (2009-2010 = 580 vs. 2010-2011 = 509).
This year, the greatest number of transfers out of our district were from students who left an ISD 709 care and treatment facility (225 students). Last year, the greatest number of transfers out of our district were students whose families moved out of the Duluth area (257 students).
One hundred and twelve student left ISD 709 to attend another school in the area. This is slightly fewer than last year (119 students).
Of the 112 students who left the Duluth Public Schools, 88 transferred to another public school and 24 transferred to a non-public school.
Of those who left the Duluth Public Schools to attend another public school, the greatest number of students chose an online school (16 students). Of those who chose a non-public school, the greatest number of students chose home school (14 students).
Fewer students have transferred out of Central/Denfeld this year compared to last year Central and Denfeld combined (September-December; 2009-2010 = 96 vs. 2010-2011 = 68).
I have also attached the market share report for reference. It has been shared with you previously, but because it was recently shared with the DNT, I thought I would send you another copy as well. This information will be shared in detail at the February Education Committee meeting.Respectfully,
Tawnyea
