From an email sent to the Duluth School Board by a physical education teacher:
“…It is proven daily physical activity improves classroom performance as well as improving test scores. On top of all that we are 1 year away from opening fantastic new middle schools with state of the art gymnasium facilities and swimming pools that would be used by one third less students (if the cuts go through). Finally it has been our experience that when cuts have to be made that the discipline of physical education has shouldered way more than its fair share of those cuts. We urge you to please leave the required 8 th grade physical education in tact as the long term benefits to the students as well as the district will be huge.”
