Subbing in a time of national reckoning

By The Way: When I was on the Duluth School Board one of the reasons we brought in the Edison Schools was because of their much longer school days. Parents worried about daycare found Edison a boon. As an “energetic” 71 year-old I find 8 hour days a grind. I asked my French pen pal who worked for years as a national employee of a national education system how long they taught in her elementary school. It was six hours. I told her that was much better

I also asked it a couple other questions about schools at different levels. Then I asked her if teachers ever “faire un greve”…..called a strike. Only for money she told me.

I think France’s national system as much to commend it.
