About or school libraries

The Trib’s Thursday editorial about the community the use of our schools gymnasiums and school libraries was poorly thought out as I noted in this post. Here’s an even more serious issue the Trib did not consider that a friend emailed me:

The . . . District has been very big on promoting the “safety features” for the students/staff in their new Red Plan buildings. Therefore, if you were to allow the public to use these libraries and media centers during school hours — the time of day when much of the public already uses the public libraries — wouldn’t you now be compromising the safety of the students/staff?

Also, what part of town are the level 2 and 3 sex offenders often released in? Isn’t it the Central Hillside/Lincoln Park/West Duluth/Morgan Park neighborhoods? So now instead of them having access to the West Duluth Library (or any library for that matter), they could have access to a high school library?
