The turtle people

I’ve had a strong identification with Old Abe since I told my Mom I thought I was homely in junior high and she told me Abraham Lincoln was homely too.

I’ve been reading yet another Lincoln book and was struck about how he felt great sympathy for animals in particular how much he disapproved of his friends who poured incindiary material on turtles for fun.

When I was a kid I used to be very upset to see cars swerve on country roads to run over turtles.

This is very sad and would bother Abe to no end as it does me.
