The DNT’s editorial board has completed its mind meld with Dr. Dixon. It has borrowed almost all of the talking points the Superintendent’s champion Mimi Larson emailed to her Move Forward Duluth crowd a week ago. They are both intent on derailing the election of Tom Kasper who was the top vote getter in the recent primary. His crimes: #1 he’s a Red Plan skeptic and #2 He’s a nice guy. They finish last you know. Mimi and the Trib are counting on it.
Here’s Mimi:
“Take Tom Kasper for instance, who is a good man and would probably make a pretty good elected official. But at times this summer, he has suggested that he might change the Facilities Plan to keep Nettleton and Lincoln Park open, keep using Morgan Park as a middle school and have the eastern high school located outside of the City of Duluth.”
And here’s Today’s Trib:
“[Tom’s] a really nice guy and a pillar of the community who has, through his job as city gardener, made Duluth a more beautiful place. He’s a scout leader and a baseball coach and about as likeable as a stuffed puppy.
…But he also advocated keeping open Morgan Park Middle School and Nettleton and Lincoln Park elementary schools. And he offered little direction about how the district could pay to keep those facilities going, especially in the face of declining enrollments.”
