Lawyers vs. the Majority

How deeply as the JCI cancer riddled Duluth? We’re starting to look like Iran where the Supreme Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has just ruled that the corrupt election was a popular victory for the much despised President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Our wise city attorneys have just ruled that a tie vote to grant a variance requested by Dr. Dixon and JCI to help make the Ordean neighborhood unlivable overturns a previous 6 to 2 vote against granting the variance.

This is obviously irrational if not immoral meaning only a lawyer could justify ripping out a page of Parliamentary procedure that has application to City Council business.

JCI, the Chamber of Commerce and the public employees union president, Alan Netland leaned heavily on the six to get them to change their vote. This blog heaped some abuse on Councilor Jeff Anderson when he decided to bring the vote back up for reconsideration which was his right since he originally voted against the variance. But Mr. Anderson and Sharla Garner who has also caught my flack for being more talk than walk on the Red Plan stood their ground despite the pressure. The 6 – 2 vote was not overturned, at least not by them. No, that was the work of creative city attorneys.

What we are learning is that blind justice has left Duluth. The forces of greed and vanity have pulled her blindfold down to show her who to favor in her rulings. They did it to deprive us of our vote on the Red Plan making Duluth the only City in Minnesota where such a civic abortion could occur. They did it to approve a contract that the School Board never looked at with no price tag attached. They did it to permit the School Board to ignore a legal petition requiring the submission of a plan for a referendum on an optional building plan.

My Father was an attorney. You would be hard pressed to find a more honorable man. I can say the same for the taxpayer’s attorney, Craig Hunter. Lawyers don’t always get to represent the virtuous and even the Devils among us are guaranteed legal representation.

I don’t even object to letting the Devil win so long as the law is on his side. The Devil is winning now but not because the law is on his side. He’s winning because the lawyers are showing us the law through a mirror turning right into left and left into right.

Apparently, if I’m going to continue fighting this spawn of lies, deceit and greed I’m going to have to saw off my arms and reattach them to different shoulders. That’ll be a bit of a nuisance I agree but when they’ve sufficiently healed I’ll reach up and pull that blindfold back down over the eyes of justice.
