Overheard – Underwhelmed # 3

From JCI’s “poor me” schtick in today’s “Overheard” column.

On claims Duluth taxpayers can’t afford the red plan:

“It’s an excellent question. It’s an excellent comment. What we’ve been trying to stress is that the full tax burden of the red plan has been felt already. It was levied 18 months ago.” – David

“Only 46 percent of the plan is paid for through an increase in property taxes.” – David (The other 54 percent, they said, will be paid from sources that include $120 million in operational savings as a result of the red plan, $23.8 million from the sales of Central High School and other district properties, and savings incurred because costly repairs will no longer be needed.)

Speaking of lies this is a big one! This requires that the district lay off the equivelent of 50 teachers annually for each of the next twenty years.

It also assumes that the District will see a million dollars or more of energy savings. That’s unlikely because we will see vastly increased transportation costs as we bus more students longer distances to fewer schools and start paying to air condition all our schools with JCI air conditioners with JCI’s pricey long term energy maintenance contracts. JCI only makes promises – not guarantees because they are not fools. They just have foolish clients.

Now tell me. Does that sound like character assassination?
