A gratuitious gotcha

Golly, a year after Grant Merritt began working on one of several possible legal challenges to the Red Plan the Trib finally covers the story. Which one? The legal issues regarding the possible avoidance of a required environmental review? The hearings of the Planning Commission on the subject? The recusal of a succession of judges who didn’t want to hear the case? Nope. They covered the question of whether the attorney was paid or not and suggested that Gary Glass was responsible for stiffing Mr. Merritt. With that kind of prompt reportage we’ll soon get to the bottom of the decision to build our Aquarium.

It was a legitimate story. It should have been covered a year ago. I stayed up late last night writing the background that the Trib doesn’t have the reporters to provide. I’m still editing that post. In the meantime this email from one of our LDV folks is dead on:

I wonder who tipped the DNT to the lawsuit? They [the DNT] did more work to produce a graphic of a “refused” letter than they have done to investigate any JCI/709 data. Why don’t they review the EAW submitted by the district and write a story?

I believe they hope to confuse the public with that lawsuit and the big one.

YES and YES.

For a list of major Red Plan stories that the Trib hasn’t published simply go to the LetDuluthVote.com website and peruse the long list of stories imbedded in yellow.

Judging by the first dozen reactions in the comment section this story has succeeded in painting Gary Glass, as a deadbeat. Gary’s only real mistake was to presume he couldn’t trust a Tribune reporter. I do trust them. Its the management I don’t have any use for. I always tell reporters more than they could ever print.

Gary on the other hand sees all the stories that aren’t covered and presumes reporters can’t be trusted. He was sure that any story the Trib wrote about Grant Merritt would be used to make Gary look bad. My Dad used to call kind of thinking the law of self fulfilling prophesy. And boy howdy Gary’s prophesy came true right down to the gratuitous gotcha graphic of the refused letter.
