At church choir today a fellow baritone joked around about “my personal issues” because he’d read the Budgeteer letter by Alan Peterson who questioned my motivation.
I didn’t know who he was because in Minnesota its hard to differentiate Scandinavian names. I’ve met three Jim Johnsons in Duluth. Ah, but it was probably Dr. Peterson, husband of Joan, a former school board member.
Twenty years ago I wrote a letter to the editor suggesting that voters vote for someone else other than Joan. I can’t recall exactly what I was worried about but like today the District then had money trouble. Not surprisingly the lawnsigns of my opponents have tended to pop up in Dr. Peterson’s yard since that time.
But payback may not be the only possible motivation for him to suggest that I’m only doing this for dubious “personal issues.” Dr. Peterson lives just below East High School. During the last School Board race lots of neighbors of East High School had Judy Seliga Punyko’s yard signs on their lawns. They had been unhappy for years because East High students spilled out and smoked cigarettes on their lawns. Since the Red Plan would have shoved this problem on the Ordean neighborhood I suspect self interest played a big part in all those Seliga lawnsigns.
The Peterson’s had a Seliga sign too.
