That email bashing the School District for stealing a referendum which was sent throughout Minnesota today is now on the Freedom Foundation’s website. Its gone from being put on an email to being a downloadable pdf on their website.
I remember as a kid the story about the young woman, Kitty Genovese, who was murdered on a New York City Street in broad daylight begging for help as dozens of onlookers stood mute and did nothing. This story provoked a storm of self examination across the country about what kind of people Americans had become to permit such a heinous act. Fortunately for Duluth, the few of us who have been trying the pull the attacker off the victim have been joined by what could eventually become the voice of the entire state.
CALL OUT THE TRUTH SQUAD. HARRY’S GOT HIS ANECDOTE WRONG!
I just googled Kitty Genovesee and it turns out this anecdote illustrates a very different point than the one I was trying to make. Oh, I told the story the way people my age would remember it. Its just that the story was and is quite simply wrong The incident took place at night and there weren’t nearly as many onlookers as I recalled. Kitty Genovese was murdered but these details were juiced up to sell newspapers and later a book 38 Witnesses.
In Duluth just the opposite has happened. Our major newspaper has suppressed juicy information rather than embarrass a plethora of local luminaries who signed onto the plan. In doing this it has made it more likely that hundred’s of millions of dollars will be spent on a project of dubious merit. How ironic that the paper is the bystander.
