Speaking of common sense

I wish I could take credit for the observations below but they aren’t mine. They clearly show that there’s a lot more common sense floating around the City than you find in the District’s Central Administration Bldg. (JCI has just moved into the CAB too)

The Board is going to make students walk two miles to school now making more busing necessary. (they say that’s why Ordean is so great because there are more kids close enough to walk. Yeah, about 5% of the student population) But if Central was the high school especially with busing being cut back all of these reasons for keeping Central High in preference to an “eastern” high school make a lot of sense:

I’ve come up with some additional reasons why the EastCentral High School is a good idea. Let me know what you think.

1) Who are some of the largest employers in our city and where are they located?

Answer: The hospitals, downtown businesses, and the mall area businesses. The majority of people have jobs in the central part of town, not the east side of town.

Therefore, if their child’s school was located in the central part of town:

— They would be able to drop off and/or pick up their child from school quickly and easily (as needed).

— They would be able to get their child to and from doctor/dentist/orthodontist appointments more quickly and easily.

— It would make it more convenient for them to attend their child’s activities.

2) Many junior and senior high students take PSEO classes. Lake Superior College, UMD, and St. Scholastic are all conveniently located near Central High School.

3) Where do most high school kids work?

Answer: At the mall or other businesses located in the central part of town. If their high school is also centrally located, this makes it much easier for them to get to and from work.
