Claudia got to the Trib before I did and was alarmed that I would describe the Community Action Greenhouse as “dangerous.” I told her that that seemed to exaggerate my concern but when I read the story I had no problem with it. It did a good job explaining my concerns.
The only reason this is a story today is because Community Action seemingly backed off an early proposal to work with the Duluth Schools. If my emails to the City Council made them reconsider a reluctance to work with the District my emails served their purpose.
Danger is a provocative word but at the moment East High School parents are concerned about traffic safety at that school. The judge who presided over our lawsuit against the District over the Red Plan had a son who was killed exiting old East High School just before we went to court. (I just checked my blog but could find no mention of this in any old posts. It could have been a touchy issue at the time so if I didn’t mention it at the time it was not because I did not deem it important.”
We built huge new swimming pools for the Red Plan which are difficult for lone teachers to fully monitor during swim classes. That led to a change in our hiring.
I’m not willing to shrug off unlikely dangers without a full discussion of them. As I explained in my email to counselors – Denfeld has enough problems today without adding a poorly vetted Greenhouse to its periphery.
