There’s been debate for years over the usefulness of psychoanalyzing Presidents or presidential contenders. Some of our loopier Presidents have turned out pretty well. Reagan seemed to act out some kind of Hollywood B movie script but he turned out pretty well. I can’t even begin to imagine that in this day and age we’d ever let a guy like Lincoln get any where near to the Oval office. But what about George Bush? Andrew Sullivan found an arresting premonition of Bush the son as chip-on-the-shoulder rather than as chip-off-the-old-block.
