Down to the River to Pray

The 2014 Denfeld Graduation has been over for a couple hours. I handed out 40 diplomas as a School Board member. It was a fun time. I haven’t done this since my last stint on the Board. Ten years ago the Board members and Superintendent would go out for a beer afterwards. Ah, collegiality. I saw my old Board buddy George Balach as I entered the Auditorium. He asked me how I was doing and I joked about being on the Board was the same old awful experience but I’ve forgotten how I put it. Another old Board member was there too and I described the return to the Board as a “chamber of horrors.” He laughed and asked when it hadn’t been.

The last couple of days have been trying. I may write up what took place but if I do, at least for the time being, I’ll print it out and file it away out of the public’s sight.

I did go out with Art Johnston after the ceremony and had a glass of wine to his beer. I hadn’t planned to do this but we had a lot to talk about. When I got home I discovered that Claudia had gotten tired of waiting for me. Drat. In the next post I’ll offer a metaphor about how I’m getting desperate to get my blogging fingers going again. First, however I wanted to get something finished that’s non Board related and been on my plate for a couple weeks. I found some sheet music on the Internet for a solo at the end of June that I offered to sing at church. I wanted to sing Down to the River to Play from the movie “Oh wherefore art thou Brother.” Not being one who can read music that well I guessed at some sheet music that might work and printed it out.

Its always nice to remove a task from the job jar. Two more short posts coming tonight before I collapse.
