I was quite pleased with Loren Martell’s latest column in the Reader Weekly describing our March School Board meeting.
He quoted Art Johnston who laid out the problems, “some stuff,” our Superintendent needs to address if we are to succeeds as a school district. Its a tall order:
“his listing of ‘some issues’ should have been accompanied by a violin: “Decrease in staff (200 in the last few years), cuts in curriculum, large class sizes, no progress in bringing students who have left back, 300 more students lost in the last two years, our bond rating near junk bond status (the worst rating in the state for schools), and I’d like to have some discussion about the continuous improvement plan, as well as graduation rates.”
