{"id":894,"date":"2006-11-04T09:32:04","date_gmt":"2006-11-04T14:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lincolndemocrat.com\/?p=894"},"modified":"2010-11-10T06:27:50","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T11:27:50","slug":"millionaire-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lincolndemocrat.com\/?p=894","title":{"rendered":"Millionaire candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.moneycentral.msn.com\/Investing\/Forbes\/TheWorstPoliticalInvestment.aspx\">an interesting MSNBC News story<\/a> on the limp record of millionaire candidates.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;the record of candidates who have poured $5 million or more of their own money into a race might be seen as &#8220;pathetic,&#8221; argues Jennifer Steen, an expert on self-funding candidates at Boston College.<\/p>\n<p>Their election rate is only 37.5%, compared with 63.9% for candidates who raised at least $5 million for their campaigns, according to Steen&#8217;s analysis of elections from 1984 to 2004.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">Minnesota&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0retiring millionaire Senator, Mark Dayton, succeeded in defeating Rod Grams six years ago.
