I&#8217;d protested our involvment in Vietnam in peace marches. My opinion was that we had no idea what we were doing there and that our presence was making things worse. I thought that the &#8220;domino theory&#8221; (which\u00c2\u00a0warned us that one\u00c2\u00a0nation&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0fall to communism would knock others\u00c2\u00a0into the communist\u00c2\u00a0orbit) was simple minded. I also thought it was a great insult to the power of democracy and free enterprise.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On the other hand we had made\u00c2\u00a0Vietnam our business and hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese had taken us at our word and cast their lot with us. Our leaving would be their doom. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Few peaceniks\u00c2\u00a0paid heed to\u00c2\u00a0this embarassing fact during Vietnam and too few pay it heed today in Iraq. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s true that peace activists have learned a thing or two since Vietman. In the Seventies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snowbizz.com\/Diogenes\/NotEudora03\/spittingonbill.htm\">a few dimwits thought it was cool to spit on returning troops<\/a>. Today&#8217;s peace activists slogans all\u00c2\u00a0seem geared at doing what&#8217;s best for\u00c2\u00a0our troops by bringing them home.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I don&#8217;t know what we can do at this sorry point in Condaleeza and George&#8217;s war to save the Iraqies from our elephantine meddling but the peace movement&#8217;s silence on this subject leaves me as cold as the\u00c2\u00a0exploitation of the war by <a href=\"http:\/\/badattitudes.com\/MT\/archives\/000148.html\">Turd blossom<\/a> for partisan advantage.\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/time.blogs.com\/daily_dish\/2006\/04\/quote_for_the_d_3.html\">From Andrew Sullivan<\/a> -\u00c2\u00a0We should think long and hard\u00c2\u00a0before we leave\u00c2\u00a0these\u00c2\u00a0Iraqies behind to deal with the mess we&#8217;ve left them.
