I could have watched the forth GOP debate on economics. Instead I watched Rebel without a Cause on The Movie Channel. I’m not sure if I would have found the debate as ridiculous and overwrought as the classic James Dean film. <\/p>\n
I might have seen the flick in full forty years ago. I’ve certainly seen several clips on numerous occasions. It reminded me of Holden Caulfield in Catcher in the Rye. I couldn’t identify with all the angst and the parents of the young rebels made sitcom parents look sage and cool. <\/p>\n
I did get Andrew Sullivan’s take by reading his “live blogging”<\/a> of the debate after the fact. He seems to think that Herman Cain was the winner tonight. If so, Herman may indeed be the biggest surprise of 2012. I think he’s been incredibly simple minded but that seems to work<\/a> with a lot of the GOP’s kind of voters. It hasn’t worked for Mitt Romney yet though. I guess the GOP Hoi polloi draws the line at either Mormonism or speaking with forked tongue.
