I saved myself $300 when I skipped filing for congress this year. Its not that I wanted the treasonous supporter of our Democracy crushing President to go unopposed. Another republican filed to lose in the primary against Pete Stauber. In this 250th anniversary of the first modern Democracy and beacon to the world I devoted myself to reading the sort of history that could help me understand how a party devoted to Abraham Lincoln could kow tow with such shamelessness to a man whose every word mocks the Beatitudes which Jesus spelled out in his sermon on the Mount. Even the agnostic Lincoln found that the Lord he doubted was a comfort as he commanded the armies that brought death to one in every three white fighting age men in the CSA and one of every six northern soldiers. Abraham Lincoln spared the south harsh rhetoric even as he fought them to save the work of our founding fathers. Days before his assassination he called on notherneres to show no malice toward the nearly defeated enemies.<\/p>\n

I read wonderful biographies about the great presidents of Donald Trump’s and my early childhoods. Harry Truman and Dwight David Eisenhower both broadcast the same message as Lincoln to a world recovering from a Great War. Each stood up to Stalin whose shallow support for sharing the wealth cost the lives of perhaps twenty million Russians in his Gulag Archipelego. Donald Trump has treated Vladimir Putin like a buddy even though Putin imprisoned murdered the only man who could have stood up to him in an honest election in Stalin’s remaining Gulag. <\/p>\n

Instead of campaign I kept to myself fixing my home and garden, reading and organizing my church choir’s sheet music which number almost a thousand hymns and anthems. And I’m an agnostic. But like Lincoln I understand that the world stands or should stand for more than a careless man’s vanity and empty boasts. I can only curl my lips when Donald Trump, President Trump does something to soil the memory of out founding fathers. But like many of the self described Christians who love Donald Trump I have admired their words to love the sinner but hate the sin. Lincoln said something similar when he called for malice toward none….even the soldiers whose lives were lost defending their state’s right to keep men in chains. <\/p>\n

Donald Trump makes no secret of his hate for people who refuse to kow tow to him and his conception of a President ruling by whim as he hold his party’s leaders by the family jewels. Abraham Lincoln did not have a submissive party. Long before his presidency his favorite attitude towards his critics was “I beg to differ,” not you’re a rino or your a communist or you’re an ultra radical.<\/p>\n

Refraining from malice towards this man who sent agents in to deport innocent aliens and kill of few of our neighbors while they were at it has not been easy. Trust me, since he reduced the Republican party to a harem of eunuchs I have held great malice toward his actions and his words. I despise my congressman’s status as kow towing eunuch Trump cheer leader proclaiming that every violation of norms, ethics, and the truth and common sense is “our way of life” and not an abombination.<\/p>\n

And people who call themselves Christians have done the same. So when I was in Iowa listening to the speech he gave to Republican delegates I spilled a lot of bile listening to the speech quoted above in the eight foot lawnsign I just designed to express my venom. Trump’s venom really. I ordered it so big that theives will have to plan very carefully how to steal it knowing that if they succeed no one who drives by my home will be able to unsee Trump’s words and fangs. <\/p>\n

And this sign is a little cheaper than filing to run for Congress in Minnesota. And I’ve written this column for the Reader that is allowing my malice to ebb.<\/p>\n

Since Trump turn at Grover Cleveland I’ve resigned myself to my faith in America and its voters. But mine was an odd expectation. I believe that for Donald Trump’s poison to weaken it was necessary to endure him for four years. It is only by letting him destroy the car that we can hope to have the voters take away his liscense. Trump has taken the richest and most trusted nation of Earth and stripped away great wealth and made us a laughing stock. I hope the Christians to support him realize that his pledge to have them cheat to keep him in power makes them accessories to the crime of treason. Its bad enough our Congressman is a traitor to the Constitution. It has been worse to know voters have been returning him to be Trump’s diabolical sycophant.<\/p>\n
