Its sort of expensive.

From the new Assistant Superintendent to the School Board:

Dear School Board Members,
This e-mail is a follow up to questions asked during the business committee meeting regarding the tutoring service contracts. Supplemental Educational Services (SES), as you know, are in response to No Child Left Behind. The question that was raised asked if we could offer these services “in-house”. The answer, in short, is no. This is because our district as a whole has not met AYP . If it were single sites that had not met AYP we would be able to offer our own services.
We currently have about 230 families who use SES. Each student has a cost cap on services of $1800. This comes out to be in the $300,000 to $400,000 range. As discussed at the meeting, these funds come out of Title I funds. They are taken out of the whole amount the district receives before it is divided into sites receiving Title I funds. All students who are eligible are notified by letter of all the services and providers along with information on how to participate.

Feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Bill

_________________________________________________________________
William Gronseth
Assistant Superintendent
Duluth Public Schools

While we’re cramming kids into classes and jockeying them around town to new temporary schools we’re being forced to contract out some remedial work….

[80
