Steve Inskeep is as instructive a historian as he is as an NPR reporter. This book was pitched as something that would help explain what&#8217;s going on now in our nation&#8217;s politics because&#8230;&#8230;as everyone has heard&#8230;..What goes around comes around&#8230;&#8230;or &#8230;..the only thing that never changes is change itself.<\/p>\n<p>BTW &#8211; John C Fr\u00e9mont was the Republican Party&#8217;s first nominee for President in 1856. Abe was still thinking about joining it that year.   Bonus for me, Fr\u00e9mont parlez vous-ed Francais. (the &#8220;-ed&#8221; is mine and a terrible blasphemy.
