One of my early favorites was a song by the Statler Brothers  \u201cFlowers on the Wall.\u201d It was about a guy who was dumped by his girlfriend. In the lyrics the fellow claims not to mind \u201cplaying solitaire alone with a deck of 51.\u201d Seven years later, after the horrors of 1968 and Vietnam, the Statlers &#8211; now confirmed red necks &#8211; sang a new song that pined for the days of rugged cowboy heroes. I couldn\u2019t stand it.
