What if in a decade some combination of home schooling private tutoring online education do to public schools what the Internet has done to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/id\/191406\">the nation&#8217;s newspapers<\/a>? Our schools could be the next General Motors. <\/p>\n<p>How fast is online education growing? From the column:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Virtual public schooling continues to be a growing trend, as more than 1 million American kindergarteners through 12th-grade students receive some or all of their public school education online \u00e2\u20ac\u201d a figure that&#8217;s growing nearly 25 percent every year.<\/p>\n<p>MTS Minnesota Connections Academy, a free online school that provides personalized K-12 education, began with eight students three years ago.
