{"id":1440,"date":"2008-09-10T07:05:03","date_gmt":"2008-09-10T12:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lincolndemocrat.com\/?p=1440"},"modified":"2008-09-10T07:08:10","modified_gmt":"2008-09-10T12:08:10","slug":"the-first-13-minn-school-levy-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lincolndemocrat.com\/?p=1440","title":{"rendered":"The first 13 Minn School levy questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During yesterday&#8217;s primary elections 13 school districts asked for money from their voters. <a href=\"http:\/\/minnesota.publicradio.org\/display\/web\/2008\/09\/10\/levyresults\/\">By MPR&#8217;s count<\/a> ten passed and three failed. That might be a good sign for the Duluth School Board, which is one of at least 45 Minnesota Districts that will put levy requests up for a vote this November, but according to Charlie Kyte who heads the State association of School Administrators:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The September election results and the November election results &#8211; one does not make the other a trend,&#8221; &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>He said the primary election was low-key enough to give districts a fighting chance to get out the word on their referenda. But what about in November, when the ballot includes high-profile races for President and U.S. Senate? <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think by and large the [superintendents] are very worried about how to get fair attention for this election for them.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>MPR also noted that six of the ten levies that passed will not cost their local voters a dime. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;These a quirky kind of bond question where the district only asks for $495,000 and doesn&#8217;t require a tax increase &#8211; all six of those passed easily, in the Cromwell-Wright, Foley, Hill City, Roseau, South Koochiching-Rainy River, and Warroad districts.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is not the kind of levy being offered by the Duluth School Board.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During yesterday&#8217;s primary elections 13 school districts asked for money from their voters.
