The first was <em>Pox Americana<\/em> by Elizabeth A Fenn. Its a very interesting investigation of a smallpox epidemic that circulated all over North America during the Revolutionary War. I skipped over some of the middle chapters.\u00c2\u00a0They were a little too thorough\u00c2\u00a0in describing the various routes by which different groups of infected soldiers\u00c2\u00a0took the disease to uninfected regions. Consequently, I won&#8217;t add the book to my <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.snowbizz.com\/Books%20Page\/myreadinglist.htm\"><strong>list of completely read books<\/strong><\/a><strong>. I did finish most of the later chapters however. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I was particularly interested\u00c2\u00a0in the ebb and flow of the plains Indian\u00c2\u00a0tribes\u00c2\u00a0and the impact Smallpox had on them. I was also interested\u00c2\u00a0to learn\u00c2\u00a0about the brutality of the Russian fur traders. The native Americans along the coast suffered tremendously from the pox.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I also began <em>Misquoting Jesus<\/em> by Bart Ehrman on the\u00c2\u00a0flight back. The first two chapters were well written.\u00c2\u00a0I had recently read <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/benwitherington.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/misanalyzing-text-criticism-bart.html\"><strong>a fairly\u00c2\u00a0dismissive critique of Ehrman<\/strong><\/a><strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 The critique found little fault\u00c2\u00a0with the first four chapters of his book but battered him on the rest of the book.
