More Red Plan tears

This post mentioned that a secretary at Woodland supposedly began crying when irate parents called her on the first day of class because of the chaos their children were enduring.

Here’s another such story.

A short time ago there was a “bumping party.” It was for the paraprofessionals in the system. I’m not sure how many were there but it was just under 300. These are folks who do critical work with difficult kids often in classrooms. Some teachers would be hard pressed to do any teaching if paras weren’t available. The paras were told in advance of the party that 30 to 50 of them were goiing to be laid off. But to figure out how to do it under the complicated rules of seniority in their contract they would have to get together to match each other’s qualifications against the District’s available jobs and needs in the different buildings. I imagine it looking like cattle in the pen at a slaughter house or a giant game of musical chairs with 30 chairs missing.

As paras discovered they had been canned they began leaving in great anguish and often in tears.
