That meeting you didn’t hear about

There was quite a Duluth City Planning Commission meeting last night. The room was jam packed with concerned Ordean residents. And of course they had to remain for four hours while everything under the sun was discussed before the Commission got around to their concerns. They had been advised to be civil in advance but one unfortunate who had to sit through it told me that enduring four hours of frivolous discussion was not easy. You didn’t read about it because there was a brouhaha between City Councilors that got all the Tribune’s attention.

I meant to write about this meeting before yesterday because, in addition to the Ordean Concerns, I was aware of another blunder by the School District that would be aired. The District’s crack team of professionals gave the City Planning Department maps of the Piedmont school property that wrongly showed them owning private property and wrongly listed it as residential. I’ve got the maps and if and when I can find the time I’ll post them. Needless to say if you were attempting to buy a house with such a crappy title search you’d be looking for someone else to do business with.

When the Chair finally got to the Ordean EAW he had to ask the 13 folks who had signed up to speak to limit themselves to three minute presentations down from the five minutes the night’s earlier speakers were given.

Whether the Ordean neighbors will be given as short a shrift when it comes time to order an environmental impact study as they got at the meeting remains to be seen.
