Where did the bridge go?

We took our daughter and grandchildren for Sunday breakfast at the top of the Radisson in Duluth. Its a circular restaurant that spins around in about an hour’s time. There was a fog moving in from the Lake but the hillside was under bright blue skies.

My littlest grandson a precocious talkative two insisted on walking around the circumference several times while we waited for our food. When we got to the Bay side I pointed out the Ariel Lift Bridge that was wrapped in fog so that only its top horizontal span was visible. I teased Jake-ie that the fog had broken it but that the sun would bring it back. He was quite concerned. As we continued our ambit of the Radisson we bumped into two teachers whose classrooms I often visited to read in. I got an immediate invitation to come back. Then they marveled at my boys.

Jake told them how the bridge was broken with a worried look but assured them that the sun would fix it. Fortunately before we had finished eating our table spun around so that we could view the bridge. It was still misty but clearly it had survived and with the sun’s help could be seen in its entirety.

It must have had him worried because when he took a nap with his grandmother later in the day he told her all about the bridge being broken and then fixed by the sun.

Tonight WDIO had a spectacular nighttime time-lapse video of the fog roiling just past the City over the lake.
