A friend’s reaction to the discontinuance of Loren’s column

The School Board is far better behaved these days. The Superintendent informed us that the faculty was thrilled to see us all on the first day of school as the faculty gathered at Denfeld for inservicing. That as much as anything makes the end of Loren’s regular columns on the School Board a little easier to take.

I got an email from a fan worried that the powers-that-be got to him. That didn’t happen. Loren is incorruptable and unafraid. He worked hard for little more than the self satisfaction that a story needing to be told got told right. Quibbling with his publisher got old. That’s pretty much it.

It killed Loren to come to school board meetings, relisten to the recordings to get the quotes right and then pester folks for back up information. It remains to be seen if skipping the meetings kills him too.

Here’s that email:

How sad to see Loren’s column discontinued.
Always opened his up first.
Next was John Ramos.

This town needs those type of reporters that dig a little deeper. Reporters that do more than print whatever the powers that be tell them is “the story”
The DNT is never a reliable source, look at their blind support of RP and Dixon.

First thought is that someone from the school board got to Boone. And in this town everyone is connected in some way.
What a shame.
709 must be breathing a sigh of relief.
