One take on Rep. Simonson’s proposal

Sent to the School Board today:

Dear School Board,

Lest you consider celebrating the ill-conceived and poorly-timed legislative attempts to dig you out of the hole you’ve created, please be aware that taxpayers are not going to support your terrible decision not to sell Central to Edison even if the state attempts to bail you out.

In fact, I have already received messages from others who saw my letter to the editor who feel the same way I do- that this poorly timed legislative effort just steals from the taxpayers twice as much! Now we’re not only going to have the building we’ve already paid for be wasted, but we’re going to have even more of our taxpayer dollars taken and spent on rebuilding something else so a developer can benefit from it instead of our children.

This whole legislation is just an attempt to dress up a pig. You can put a bow on it and make it dance, but it is still a pig.

Follow the wishes of your constituents and please stop trying to make excuses to justify your poor decision. SELL THE BUILDING TO THE WILLING BUYER YOU ALREADY HAVE! And stop wasting taxpayer dollars on things that aren’t educating our kids!

Frankly, I don’t care if it benefits Edison. It is benefiting KIDS either way to sell to Edison. You pretend to care about educating kids, but really you only care about educating kids who choose YOUR outdated method of education that doesn’t even follow researched best-practices.

This legislation is going to make people more mad, not less! Forget about an operating levy if this is how you’re going to continue to operate!

Sincerely,
Erica Henkel.
